DUE WEST, S.C. --- Senior Jariliz Cotté and junior Avalon Liscio produced 10 kills each and a trio of players had double-digit kills, but the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought battle to No. 1-seeded Erskine, 23-25, 22-25, 23-25, in a Conference Carolinas Quarterfinal bout Tuesday evening at Belk Arena in Due West, S.C.
The Flying Fleet (20-6) advance to the CC Semis to battle Barton Friday, Nov. 14 while Kelly Sullivan paced all players with 15 kills. The Bobcats (8-20) saw Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) cap off a solid sophomore campaign with a team-high 17 digs.
Seniors Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.), Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) saw their storied careers come to a close.
The first set was tight from beginning to end while neither squad could produce a lead larger than three points.
LMC produced a quick 4-0 spurt to take a 10-8 lead after kills from Liscio (Naples, Fla.) and Laneica Williams (Conover, N.C.).
Cotté notched one of her kill to give the Bobcats a 23-21 advantage, however, EC responded with a pair of kills from Sullivan and an ace from Katie Blitch to end the set on a 4-0 run and grabbed a one-set to none lead.
The second set was as entertaining as the first while the match saw multiple ties.
Tied at 22, the Flying Fleet used strong play at the net to produce a 3-0 run due to a pair of LMC attack errors.
EC's Marissa Mayfield delivered a pair of service aces in the final set to break a 20-all tie while EC completed the sweep.
Schillinger paved the way offensively for LMC with 14 assists while Banta was strong defensively with six block assists.
