Women's Volleyball Batters Mount Olive, 3-1

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Four players recorded at least kills while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team thumped Mount Olive, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-11, in Conference Carolinas action Friday evening in Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats (7-19, 6-9 CC) enjoyed solid performances defensively from Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.), who combined for 10 block assists. The Trojans (4-21, 3-12) were led by Danielle Plante's nine-kill performance.

Coach William Tatge's squad secured the No. 4 seed in the North Division and will travel to the No. 1 seed in the South Division, Erskine, for a Conference Carolinas Quarterfinal Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

LMC scurried out to a 9-4 lead in the first thanks to shaky play from UMO and a Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) kill.

Cutshaw amassed eight kills on the evening.

The Trojans responded and tied it at 13 after consecutive kills from Megan Hight and Alysha Burnett.

The rest of the set was a see-saw battle, but UMO eventually broke a 20-20 tie and finished the set on a 5-2 run.

The first set was the only set UMO swung over .073.

Liscio tallied three of her nine kills while LMC sprinted out to a 5-0 lead in the second.

The Trojans held their own and eventually took a 20-18 lead.

The Bobcats were not to be out done and fought back with a 7-2 run, capped off by a thunderous ace from Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico).

Cotté and Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with 14 digs each.

LMC held UMO to -.061 and -.120 in the third and fourth set, respectively and won both sets by at least a dozen points.

The Bobcats swung a match-best .286 in the fourth.

Senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) paved the way for LMC with 21 assists while sophomore Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) had 19.

Schillinger, Banta and Cotté will be honored for Senior Day prior to LMC's contest against Barton Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
