HICKORY, N.C. --- Sophomore Sarah Stallings and freshman Sarah Tucker notched multi-hit games while the Lees-McRae softball team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne, 6-1, before being shut out by Mercyhurst, 8-0, Saturday afternoon in Hickory, N.C.
Lenoir-Rhyne 6, LMC 1
The Bears (3-0) got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from Christina Walker to take an early 1-0 lead.
An inning later, LR used consecutive RBI singles to left to extend the lead to 3-0.
LMC (0-3) took advantage of LR's defense while an infield popup from Taylor Billings (Sophia, N.C.) and a Bear error ended up plating Amanda Decker (Apex, N.C.) in the top of the fourth.
LR's Madison Poe plated a run with a run-scoring single following a leadoff triple from Shelby Narmore.
The Bears delivered the knockout blow with a two-run blast from Ashley Oliver in the bottom of the fourth.
Sophomore Charlie Dutton (Monroe, Ga.) impressed with two innings of scoreless relief work while LR's Brandi Hole earned with win.
Mercyhurst 8, LMC 0
The Lakers (1-1) used three-hit performances from Taylor Jezuit and Kayla Larson while Alexandra Puckly pitched a four-hit shutout.
The Bobcats (0-4) enjoyed a two-hit performance from freshman Sarah Tucker (Monroe, N.C.). Tucker has recorded a hit in three of her first four games.
MU wasted little time taking a lead when Rachel DiBartolomeo put the Lakers up with an inside-the-park dinger in the bottom of the first.
Jezuit drove in a run with an RBI single to right, plating Kayla Larson.
Larson scored two runs and drove in a pair of runs in the contest.
The Lakers put up a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth to gain the victory.
Coach Merritt Yackey's team battles Mercyhurst and Lenoir-Rhyne at 1 & 3 p.m., respectively on Sunday in Hickory, N.C.
