Bobcat Softball Drops Two at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- The Lees-McRae softball team fell twice to Flagler in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Flagler Field in St. Augustine, Fla.

Flagler 9, Lees-McRae 4

Six Saints (6-18) had multi-hit performances, including three hits from Lauren Roudabush and Mackenzie Conley each.

The Bobcats (3-18) enjoyed production from the bottom portion of their lineup, including four hits from the No. 7-9 spots.

Freshman Sara Weatherholtz (Hampton, Ga.) got LMC on the board in the top of the second with a slap single that found a stopping point between the pitcher and catcher.

Kolleen Spears (Hickory, N.C.) started the offense show with a leadoff walk before Valerie Hickey (Umatilla, Fla.) reached on a fielding error.

The Bobcats extended the lead to two after Sarah Stallings (Greensboro, N.C.) reached on a fielding error, allowing Hickey to score.

FC belted back-to-back jacks in the bottom of the third while hanging a five-spot to take a 5-2 lead.

Sophomore Taylor Billings (Sophia, N.C.) helped her own cause with a leadoff double to right center in the top of the fourth. Billings would come around to score after one of the Saints' four errors in the game.

Tori Wright (Boone, N.C.) plated Sarah Tucker with a groundout and error.

The Saints offense notched five hits in their first six batters in the bottom of the fourth while scoring three more runs.

FC added an insurance run in the sixth when Maddy Murphy drove in her fourth run of the day with a sacrifice fly to right.

Tinsley Smith picked up the win while Billings (2-9) suffered the loss.

Flagler 8, Lees-McRae 0 (6 Innings)

The Saints (7-18) took advantage of a costly LMC error in the bottom of the second and took a 1-0 lead.

Murphy led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a throwing error two batters later.

Kelli Parker plated two runs with a single up the middle in the bottom of the third.

The Bobcats (3-19) struggled offensively while only managing two hits.

FC's offense exploded for four runs on five hits in the sixth.

Charlie Dutton (Monroe, Ga.) (1-8) suffered the loss after three innings of work. The sophomore celebrated her 20th birthday on Thursday.

The Bobcats travel to Mars Hill for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 in Mars Hill, N.C.
