Softball Drops Two at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae softball team fell in a pair of five inning contests at Erskine Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play at EC Softball Complex in Due West, S.C.

Erskine 9, Lees-McRae 0 (5 Innings)
The Flying Fleet (8-13, 2-3 CC) had a quartet of players with two RBI's each while Danica Newton twirled a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.

EC's Jill Sprague plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, sparking a four-run inning.

Amanda Decker (Apex, N.C.), Sarah Stallings (Greensboro, N.C.) and Taylor Billings (Sophia, N.C.) drew walks for the Bobcats (3-22, 0-1).

Stallings moved into second in the conference after stealing a pair of bases. The sophomore has amassed 15 on the season and trails Mount Olive's T. Carter by three.

The Flying Fleet bunched together five hits in the bottom of the fourth, including consecutive doubles, leading to five runs in the frame.

LMC was unable to score a run despite a leadoff walk from Billings in the fifth.

Sophomore Charlie Dutton (1-10) (Monroe, Ga.) struggled while allowing four runs in an inning of work.

Erskine 9, Lees-McRae 1 (5 Innings)
The Bobcats' (3-23, 0-2) Stallings opened up the second game with a leadoff walk and came around to score on a Decker RBI single.

EC (9-13, 3-3) retorted with a trio of hits, including a two-run double from Gabby Keisler, in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead.

Sprague continued her solid performance at the dish with a three-run blast in the third.

Keisler and Jacquie Hill produced run-scoring singles in the bottom of the fifth, enforcing the mercy rule.

Billings (2-11) harbored the loss after one inning of work.

LMC travels to Franklin Springs, Ga. for a doubleheader against Emmanuel (Ga.) Tuesday, March 24 starting at 5 p.m.
