MISENHEIMER, N.C. --- Senior Jordan Banta bashed out a career-high 18 kills while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dispatch Pfeiffer, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-13, in a Conference Carolinas match Tuesday evening at Merner Gym in Misenheimer, N.C.
The Bobcats (2-7, 1-0 CC) grabbed their second consecutive win while senior Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) delivered nine kills each. The Falcons (1-5, 0-1) struggled offensively while failing to hit better than .040 in three of the four sets.
Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) got going early and often by cranking out a trio of kills while LMC took a 6-1 set in the first.
PU rallied back to take a 14-13 lead following a Hope Moua kill.
Coach William Tatge's squad responded with an 8-3 run, capped off by a Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) assist before she stuffed a Laura Ann Fortner attack attempt.
Sophomore Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) and Leonard chipped in a kill each before a Falcon attack error ended the first set.
A timely service ace from Laneica Williams (Conover, N.C.) gave the Bobcats an early 10-5 advantage in the second.
Once again, PU rallied back and eventually tied the contest at 16.
Cutshaw and Williams pushed the Falcons to the brink with kills, but PU used a pair of Shenelle Charlot aces to finish the second set on a 6-0 run to knot it at one-set each.
Cutshaw and Banta combined for six kills while LMC sprinted out to an 11-5 lead in the third.
Senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) joined the kill parade, extending the lead to nine.
She dished out a pair of assists and an ace while the Bobcats cruised to a 25-13 victory.
LMC hit a match-high .367 and held the Falcons to a match-low -.071.
Banta and Leonard combined for six kills, including three in a row from Leonard, to spark a 9-2 run and breaking a 10-all tie.
Banta concluded her career night with three consecutive aces and a back-to-back blocks from Leonard and Weathersbee.
Schillinger led LMC with 12 assists.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Sep. 18 when they travel to North Greenville at 7 p.m. for a CC bout in Tigerville, S.C.
