WINGATE, N.C. --- Freshman Austin Thompson and sophomore Alexandria Flint led their respective teams while the Lees-McRae cross country squads participated at the Wingate Stampede Saturday morning in Wingate, N.C.
Thompson (Cleveland, Ga.) continued his sensational freshman campaign while the men's team finished in front of Conference Carolina representatives Barton, Pfeiffer and Belmont Abbey.
LMC's top four finishers turned in sub-29 minute times with Thompson turning in a time of 28:05.26. Junior Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) completed the 8K course in 28:22.07 while Shawn and Lane Graves (Goshen, Ind.) went for 28:24.95 and 28:58.72, respectively.
Alex Griggs of Mars Hill won the individual title with a time of 25:42.70 while Mount Olive claimed the team crown.
On the women's side, Flint (Blue Bell, Pa.) paced the team with a time of 25:43.86.
Teammates Kristen Mitchell (Cleveland, Ga.) and Jamie Colon (Acworth, Ga.) chimed in with marks of 26:14.83 and 27:24.07, respectively.
Haylee Love of Anderson (S.C.) inched out the individual title against Whitney Elliott with a time of 22:50.45. Wingate dominated its home course and won the team crown with 74 points.
Coach Ley Fletcher's squads return to action Friday, Oct. 9 at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
