Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats fall on the road to Erskine, 83-60

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team dropped an 83-60 decision on the road to Erskine Saturday. Markia Stacey led the way for LMC with 19 points, seven assists and three steals.

The Flying Fleet came out of the gate hitting on all cylinders scoring eight of the first 10 points of the game. Following the run by Erskine, the Bobcats outscored their opponents 13-11 for the remainder of the quarter to narrow the deficit to five points, 18-13.

Erskine went 10-for-11 from the free throw line in the second quarter to help extend its lead out to 15 points as the two teams headed to the locker room, 40-25. Another factor in the sudden burst of offense by the Flying Fleet was their work in the rebounding department as they out-rebounded the Bobcats 16-4 in the second.

The duo of Stacey and Brea Forbes combined for 12 points in the third quarter, and the Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field in the frame. Despite the improved offense by Lees-McRae, Erskine still extended its lead to 18 points going to the fourth, 63-45.

Freshman Christa Tumminello drained three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to finish with a career-high nine points. However, the deficit dug by the Bobcats proved too much to overcome as Erskine finished off the 23-point win, 83-60.

In addition to the 19-point effort by Stacey, Alexis Ammons also finished in double figures with 11 points. Caitlin Brown also led LMC on the glass totaling six rebounds. It is the second straight game that Brown has led Lees-McRae in rebounding.

The Bobcats, now 1-16 overall and 1-10 in league play, will return to Williams Gymnasium Tuesday when they host North Greenville. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
