Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats earn first win of the season defeating P.R. Bayamon, 67-59

BANNER ELK, N.C. – In its first action at Williams Gymnasium this season, the Lees-McRae College women's basketball team treated its home town crowd to a 67-59 win over P.R. Bayamon Tuesday night. The victory is the first for the Bobcats this season and bumps their record up to 1-2.

After the first 20 minutes of play, the Bobcats held an eight-point lead on the Cowboys, 35-27. The lead was almost all traced back to LMC's ability to get to the free throw line and knock shots down. In the first half, the Bobcats went 7-for-9 from the line with Brea Forbes leading this charge going 6-for-6.

The second half saw the Bobcats and Cowboys trade baskets with both teams scoring 32 points in the frame. The Cowboys nearly took the lead from the Bobcats with about four minutes remaining in the game at 57-56. LMC, however, came up with some stops and key baskets when it needed to. Junior Mackenzie Blankenship scored seven of her nine points in the last two minutes the game to seal the Bobcat victory.

Forbes led all Bobcat scorers with 13 points Tuesday. Taylor Fluette chipped in 12 and led the Bobcats with seven rebounds, while Christa Tumminello added 10 points and dished a team-high five assists.

The Bobcats will look for their second straight win Saturday when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a non-conference tilt. Tip-off between LMC and LR is set for 2 p.m.
