BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team opened Conference Carolinas play with a 94-72 victory over Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night at Williams Gymnasium. The victory bumps LMC's record to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Lees-McRae put together one of its best offensive halves of this season to open the game shooting 50 percent from the floor on 36 shots. Facing a high shooting percentage from the Bobcats, Southern Wesleyan was aggressive offensively drawing 14 Bobcat fouls in the opening 20 minutes of action. The clash of offensive styles led to a 41-36 lead for LMC going into the halftime break.
LMC began to separate itself in the second half outscoring the Warriors 53-36 in the final two quarters to seal the 94-72 victory. The 94 points by the Bobcats are the most for the team since it scored 105 points against St. Andrews on February 11, 2012.
Junior Brea Forbes did a little bit of everything for the Bobcats Tuesday. Forbes led LMC with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with a team-highs in rebounds (9), steals (7) and blocks (4). Setting up Forbes and the rest of the Bobcat attack was Markia Stacey who dished out six assists in the win to go with her 17 points. Rounding out the double figure scorers for LMC against SWU were Grace Canella (15) and Mackenzie Blankenship (14).
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday when they head to Spartanburg, S.C. for a conference tilt at Converse. Tip-off for that game is set for 1 p.m.
