Cross Country wraps up its first race of the 2017 season Friday in Boone

BOONE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs competed in the Covered Bridge Open Friday evening in Boone, N.C. The men's squad finished 9^th out of 12 teams, while the women's team was 12^th out 12 squads out of a field made up of Division I and II programs.

Florida State won both the men's and women's titles on the day. FSU's Mircheva Militsa paced all women runners with a time of 16:53.29. On the men's side, UT-Martin's Edwin Kurgat logged the top time of 25:52.08.

Junior Austin Thompson posted the top time of any Bobcat Friday with a time of 27.22.21, which landed him in 36^th place. On the women's team, Jordyn Halvorsen had the top time with a mark of 21:42.99.
