Softball falls to Mount Olive on day two of the Conference Carolinas Tournament, 4-3

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team's 2018 season came to an end Saturday afternoon in Burlington, North Carolina as the Bobcats fell to Mount Olive by a score of 4-3 on day two of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The loss closes LMC's record on the season at 17-26, which is the team's most wins in a season since 2011.

Mount Olive would jump ahead of the Bobcats on three different occasions in Saturday's contest. UMO scored a pair of runs in the first before LMC rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the second. Mount Olive pulled in front again in the third, but Lees-McRae answered back to tie the score at 3-3 going to the fifth. UMO would pull in front for good, however, with a run in the sixth inning and it held on for the one-run victory.

All of LMC's offense against the Trojans came from the top six hitters in its batting order. In total, the Bobcats picked up eight hits on the day. The trio of Noel Cassidy, Sarah Tucker and Katie Robinson accounted for six of the eight base knocks with each player collecting two hits each. Caitlyn Ray and Kara Cunningham also collected hits against UMO.

Overall, three different pitchers saw time in the circle for the Bobcats Saturday. Gabrielle Moyer started the game and lasted just one inning after she allowed two runs on two hits. Cassidy Largen tossed one-and-one-third inning allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and two walks. Cunningham came in to relieve Largen and ended up taking the loss concluding her 2018 record at 17-13.

The Bobcats will return the bulk of their squad to the field in 2019. LMC does lose key players in Tucker and Alix Green to graduation. However, the Bobcats will return all three of their all-conference players in Cunningham, Cassidy and Ray.
