BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team defeated Erskine College at home on Thursday afternoon by a final score of, 67-62.
Both the Bobcats and Flying fleet struggled early to find offense. Lees-McRae did however attack the glass, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds in the first half which propelled their scoring opportunities. The Bobcats built momentum as Destiny Johnson found her shot in the second quarter, providing 12 points in the first two quarters. Erskine was able to keep pace with the Bobcats with every basket and went into the halftime locker room with the score tied at 36.
Lees-McRae came out of the break scoring the first four points of the third quarter. The Bobcats were able to maintain this small cushion through most of the period. Erskine was able to absorb the Bobcats punch and throw one of their own, battling back to take the lead in the early fourth quarter. From that point, It was all Lees-McRae as the Bobcats were able to open things up from behind the arc and go on to win, 67-62.
Lees-McRae will return to action Saturday when they face Converse on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
