ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Quincy (Ill.) University (25-15, 25-20, 25-12) in a neutral site contest in Missouri. The loss moves Lees-McRae's record to 0-3.
1st Set – The Hawks and Bobcats began Saturday's match by exchanging points for most of the first set. Neither team held a lead of more than three points through the early going. After a kill from Ethan Gardner made it 17-14, Quincy started to click offensively going on a 7-1 run to close out the first frame, 25-15.
2nd Set – The separation in the second set occurred a little earlier in the stanza. A solo block from Chris Wooslayer brought Lees-McRae within one point at 10-9. However, Quincy rattled off five straight points to gain momentum. Credit the Bobcats as they were able to rally and get the score within three points after an ace from Ace Baker made it 22-19. Quincy was able to persevere though scoring three of the next four points to take the second set as well, 25-20.
3rd Set – In what proved to be the final frame of Saturday's match, the Hawks attacked at a stellar .455 clip to pull away from the Bobcats and finish off the match, 25-12. Quincy's big run in the third came at the end when it scored 10 of 11 points to turn a 14-11 advantage into a 25-12 set victory.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will wrap its trip to the 'Show Me' state on Sunday with another non-conference match against McKendree. First serve for that contest is set for 11 a.m.
