Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats race past Warriors at home

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team defeated Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday night by a final score of 77-53. The Bobcats were led by Destiny Johnson who finished with 24 points to lead all scorers.

Lees-McRae began the game red hot from behind the three point line. The Bobcats knocked down eight shots from behind the arc in the first half alone as Jala Holloman and Destiny Johnson led the charge. Those two players combined for 23 points in the first two quarters, helping Lees-McRae carry a 39-31 lead into the locker room.

During the second half, the Bobcats continued their hot shooting and also turned up the defensive intensity. Southern Wesleyan only scored eight points throughout the entire third quarter, which allowed Lees-McRae to separate themselves. Jala Holloman began the third with one of her several old fashioned three point plays. The Bobcats followed that play with excellent shooting from everyone on the floor and by the end of the third, found themselves with a 59-39 advantage. This deficit proved to be too much for the Warriors as Lees-McRae went on to win, 77-53.

The Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they face Mount Olive at home. Tipoff from Banner Elk is scheduled for 2 p.m.
