HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday night (25-10, 25-12, 25-8). Max Kuntz led the way for the Bobcats with four kills and three digs.
1st Set - Lincoln Memorial began the first set on fire, jumping out to a 10-1 lead over the Bobcats. Lees-McRae then rallied to win the next three points to close the deficit. Later in the set, a kill my Max Kuntz and service error by the Railsplitters again closed the gap to a 15-8 Lincoln Memorial lead. This momentum however did not last and Lincoln Memorial went on to take the set 25-10.
2nd Set - The second frame was the most competitive of the night with the Railsplitters leading 13-7 near the midway point. Lincoln Memorial would be plagued by service errors during the set, which assisted the Bobcats with staying within striking distance. Lincoln Memorial finished strong, winning six of the last eight points to win the set.
3rd Set - In the last set, the Bobcats came out of the gate playing well, staying neck and neck with the Railsplitters. After a kill by Ethan Gardner, Lees-McRae trailed by only one at six to five. Lincoln Memorial responded, winning the next eight points to regain a comfortable lead. This deficit in the end proved too much for the Bobcats, dropping the set 25-8.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will return to action next Tuesday when they host Tusculum University. First serve from Banner Elk is set for 7 p.m.
