BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College Women's basketball team fell to North Greenville University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 71-62.
The Crusaders of North Greenville jumped out to an early seven to two advantage over the Bobcats. Lees-McRae countered with Jala Holloman and her two three point baskets that gave the Bobcats their first lead of the game. After pulling ahead, Lees-McRae was able to maintain a one point lead through the remainder of the first quarter. In the second quarter however, North Greenville pulled away from Lees-McRae thanks to five made baskets from behind the arc. The Bobcats were able to enter the locker room with some momentum of their own but trailed, 29-22 at the break.
The following two quarters saw the Crusaders widen their lead, only to have the Bobcats claw their way back into the contest. After a Jala Holloman three and Malikah Meyers layup, Lees-McRae pulled within five points of North Greenville. The Crusaders were then put together a small scoring run of their own and quickly widened their advantage once again. The Bobcats continued to fight but were ultimately not able to overcome the deficit, falling 71-62.
The Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they face Chowan on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
