FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team dropped its season finale on the road at Emmanuel Tuesday night by a score of 78-56. The loss concludes the 2019-20 season for Lees-McRae and its record at 8-22 overall and 5-17 in conference play.
Neither team began Tuesday's contest with much luck offensively. Lees-McRae and Emmanuel combined for just 17 points in the first quarter with the Bobcats holding a slim 9-8 lead going to the second frame. Both squads would turn in better offensive efforts in the second quarter. The Lions got to the free throw line a total of 20 times in the first two quarters and used those free chances to build a seven-point lead on the Bobcats at one juncture. A pair of made free throws from Lees-McRae at the end of the half made it 30-25 Emmanuel heading into the halftime break.
A quick run by the Bobcats to open the third quarter made it 34-32 Emmanuel with a little over seven minutes to go in the frame. However, the Lions answered with a run of their own scoring 14 unanswered points to build up a 48-32 lead on the Bobcats. Emmanuel would continue to build its lead for the remainder of the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter before finishing off the 78-56 victory over Lees-McRae.
The duo of Makayla Smith (13 points) and Destiny Johnson (10 points) were the lone Bobcats to finish the night in double figures. Davinique Campbell nearly finished with a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Malikah Meyers also had a good night on the glass as she grabbed seven rebounds.
Lees-McRae is scheduled to have the majority of this season's team back for 2020-21. The Bobcats will lose just two players to graduation in Jordan Soares and Jasmine Turpin.
