BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday afternoon as it knocked off Shorter by a score of 14-10 in Banner Elk. The victory improves Lees-McRae's record to 1-6 on the season.
All 60 minutes of Thursday's contest were tightly contested between Shorter and Lees-McRae. No lead was more than three goals until Craig Barr's goal with 31 seconds to go built the Bobcat lead to four at 14-10. The Bobcats were up by one goal after 15 minutes, 3-2, but the two teams were tied at six and nine after the second and third quarters, respectively. The difference came in the fourth quarter where the Bobcats outscored the Hawks 5-1 to pick up their first win of the season.
The Bobcats used a balanced scoring attack to get the win on Thursday. Jackson Galloway led all players with an eight-point effort against the Hawks with four goals and four assists. Ryan Beauchamp scored four times as well and added an assist for a total of five points, while Barr finished the afternoon with four goals on six shot attempts. Mike Moore accounted for the other two goals scored for Lees-McRae and added a pair of assists as well. Finally, the duo of Bryce James and Payton Risinger added single assists in the victory to round out the point scorers for Lees-McRae on the day.
Thursday's goalkeeping detail was split between Jack Cruz and Josh Csanyi. Cruz, who started the game in net, stopped five shots in 11 attempts against him. Csanyi played the final two quarters and made eight saves in 12 opportunities. For his efforts in the second half, Csanyi picked up his first collegiate win as a goalkeeper improving his record to 1-2 on the season.
Lees-McRae is scheduled to return to action on March 14 when it visits Mount Olive for a Conference Carolinas clash. First face-off between the Bobcats and Trojans is set for noon.
