Women’s Volleyball falls short against King in four

BANNER ELK, N.C.  –  Natasha Colon Moreno finished with a game-high 18 kills, while Lauren Xayavong and Carlee Allbaugh tallied 27 and 20 digs respectively, but it was not enough as King clinched a four-set win over the Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas action this evening.

RECORDS: King (8-6/3-1), Lees-McRae (4-8/2-3)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Moreno chipped in 10 digs, while Allbaugh a game-high 28 assists to go along with 20 digs.
  • Xayavong added a team-high 27 digs, with Kaden Hill tallying four solo blocks and three block assists.
  • Both teams matched each other point-for-point in the opening minutes until King used an 11-6 run to grab momentum and closed on a 4-0 run to win the frame, 25-16.
  • Lees-McRae responded with an early run in the second frame and used a kill by Moreno to hold a 7-6 edge.
  • The Tornado responded with a run of their own later in the set and held on for a 25-21 win in the second frame.
  • The Bobcats opened with a 12-6 run in the third stanza and overcame a rally by King to hold a 22-21 lead.
  • A kill by Allbaugh and a pair of Tornado errors gave Lees-McRae a 25-21 win in the third set.
  • King closed out the conference win with a 25-16 win in set three.
  • The Tornado held a 46-37 edge in kills and a 13-5 advantage in service aces.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Hailee Blankenship and Brittney Ramsey finished with a combined 25 kills to pace the Tornado.
  • Katie Harless chipped in 20 assists and 14 digs.
 
NOTEWORTHY:
  • With the win this evening, King earns a single point in the "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" competition. This is the first point that either team has earned during the 2021-22 season.

UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will visit North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas contest on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
