Ney, Gilreath lift Women’s Volleyball past Southern Wesleyan in three

CENTRAL, S.C.Olivia Ney and Hailey Gilreath posted double-digit kills, while three Bobcats tallied double-digit digs, to lead the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team to a straight-set sweep of host Southern Wesleyan in the Conference Carolinas match this afternoon. The Bobcats have now completed the season sweep of the Warriors.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ney finished with a team-high 13 kills to go along with four digs, two solo blocks, and two block assists.
  • Gilreath posted 11 kills, while Natasha Colon Moreno chipped in nine kills and three digs.
  • Carlee Allbaugh tallied 32 set assists and 12 digs, while Lauren Xayavong and Bre Adamson finished with 13 and 10 digs respectively.
  • Both teams matched each other point-for-point in the opening set until the Bobcats raced out to 9-2 run to grab momentum early.
  • After Southern Wesleyan closed the gap to 21-15 late, Lees-McRae used a pair of final kills by Ney and Mahealani Chun to win the first frame, 25-16.
  • The second set was highly contested with neither team holding a sizable advantage, with closing on a 3-1 run, highlighted by two kills by Moreno, to clinch the set, 26-24.
  • Lees-McRae used a 7-1 run in the final set to claim the three-set sweep with a 25-17 win in set three.
  • The Bobcats held a 46-29 advantage in kills and a slim 7-5 edge in total blocks.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Amber Bass finished with a match-high 14 kills to go along with 13 digs.
  • Ashley Sexton chipped in 25 assists.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will host Mount Olive in another Conference Carolinas match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
