King battles past Women’s Volleyball in three

BRISTOL, Tenn.Kaden Hill and Hailey Gilreath finished with a team-high 11 kills each, while Lauren Xayavong tallied a match-high 22 digs, but it was not enough as host King clinched the three-set victory over the visiting Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas match this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Hill finished with a .417 hitting percentage, while Gilreath chipped in four digs and a block assist.
  • Olivia Ney added six kills and two block assists, with Carlee Allbaugh tallying 29 assists and nine digs.
  • Madison Goins, Bre Adamson, and Natasha Colon Moreno chipped in 12, nine, and nine digs respectively.
  • Lees-McRae and King matched each other point-for-point for the majority of the first set, until the Tornado used a 9-4 run to grab momentum.
  • The Bobcats trimmed the deficit back to one point on multiple occasions, until King tallied a late kill to clinch the first set, 25-22.
  • Both teams traded runs in the second stanza, with a kill by Gilreath giving Lees-McRae a 19-16 lead, but the Tornado closed on a 9-2 run to clinch a 25-21 win in set two.
  • The Bobcats used a sizable run early to hold a 12-6 lead in the third set and used three consecutive kills by Hill to maintain a 22-17 lead late.
  • King scored the next seven points and closed with a pair of late kills to complete the victory with a 27-25 win in set three.
  • The Tornado held a slim 43-37 edge in kills and finished with a match-high nine service aces.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Julie Ward finished with a match-high 18 kills to go along with 14 digs.
  • Katie Harless and Georgia David tallied 17 and 15 assists respectively.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • With the win tonight, King adds another point in the season-long "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" competition.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will host Emmanuel in another Conference Carolinas match on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
