BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae women's volleyball team, under head coach
Abigail King, will make its third Conference Carolinas postseason tournament appearance in the previous four years when it battles No. 4 Erskine in the first round on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bristol, Tennessee. The Bobcats entered as the No. 5 seed in last year's postseason tournament, before seeing their season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The winner of Saturday's 2 p.m. first round contest will advance to the second round and will face No. 3 King at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the #3-#4-#5 first and second round action will then travel to No. 2 UNC Pembroke in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Scouting the Bobcats…The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a 9-16 overall record (7-11 in conference play), including a four-set win over Erskine on Oct. 30, to clinch the No. 5 seed in the West Region. Senior
Natasha Colon Moreno lead the Bobcats and is 14th in the conference in kills with 228 this season. Sophomore
Carlee Allbaugh is fourth in the conference in both assists (762) and assists/set (8.28) this season, while junior
Lauren Xayavong is second in the league in both digs (530) and digs/set (5.76) this season.
Scouting the Flying Fleet…The Flying Fleet enter Saturday's first round contest with an 11-20 overall record (7-11 in conference play), including a four-set home win over Lees-McRae on Sept. 25, to clinch the No. 4 seed in the West Region (ranked higher than Lees-McRae due to a 1-1 record against No. 3 King this season). Junior Meredith Hollinger leads the Conference Carolinas with 406 kills this season and is fourth with a 3.38 kills/set average this season. Senior Katy Torgerson is fourth in the league with 104 total blocks this season.
The Rivalry…Lees-McRae is 14-10 all-time against the Flying Fleet, including winning four of the previous five meetings. These two teams have met twice in the postseason tournament since 2015 with Erskine winning in three sets in both the 2015 and 2016 Conference Carolinas Tournaments.
