Women’s Soccer to host No. 5 Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals on Saturday

The Lees-McRae women's soccer team, under head coach Cally Morrill, will make its second consecutive appearance in the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament when it hosts No. 5 Belmont Abbey as the No. 4 seed on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinal round on Tate Field.  The Bobcats defeated the Crusaders in the quarterfinal round last season to earn a spot in the Conference Carolinas Semifinals.
 
The winner of Saturday's showdown between Lees-McRae and Belmont Abbey will advance to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals against No. 1 Mount Olive in Florence, South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 12.
 
Scouting the Bobcats…The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a pair of wins over King and Southern Wesleyan en route to clinching an 11-3-2 overall record (8-2-2 conference record) to earn the fourth seed in the playoffs. Sophomore Taylor Barrineau led the Bobcats with 14 points (six goals and two assists) this season, while senior Alexa Todd has tallied 12 points (five goals and two assists) this season. Sophomore Mallory Roughton enters the postseason tournament with a 0.78 goals-against-average and a .840 save percentage.
 
Scouting the Crusaders…The Crusaders closed out the regular season with a 7-8-1 overall record (7-4-1 conference record) to clinch the No. 5 seed in the postseason tournament and defeated No. 8 seed Emmanuel in the first round on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinal round. Junior Goose Andrews leads Belmont Abbey with 22 points (11 goals), while sophomore Corrine Shovlain has chipped in two goals and four assists for eight points. Senior Lauryn Harding enters the contest with a 0.97 goals-against-average and a .814 save percentage.
 
The Rivalry…Lees-McRae is 4-1-3 in the last eight meetings against Belmont Abbey, including a 2-0 win over the Crusaders on Tate Field on Oct. 12. These two teams met in a first-round home-and-home series in last year's postseason tournament with the first game ending in a 1-1 tie and the second one ending with a Hannah Davies goal in overtime to clinch a 1-0 win over Lees-McRae.
