Newberry shoots past Men’s Lacrosse, 15-7

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Newberry outscored the host Bobcats 8-2 in the first half and finished 3 of 5 in extra-man opportunities to clinch a 15-7 win over Lees-McRae in the non-conference action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Craig Barr, Ryan Beauchamp and Mike Moore all finished with two goals to pace the Bobcats, with Beauchamp chipping in an assist.
  • J.P. Daniels notched his first goal of the season, while Jonathan Barry led Lees-McRae with a team-high two assists.
  • Newberry sprinted out of the gates with a goal just 1:08 into the contest, while the Bobcats evened the score with 3:54 left in the first quarter on Moore's fifth goal of the season, off the assist by Beauchamp.
  • The Wolves scored seven of the final eight goals of the first half to claim an 8-2 lead at halftime, with the lone Bobcats' goal going to Barr off an assist by Jacob Zellen.
  • Newberry outscored Lees-McRae 6-2 in the third quarter to push their lead even further.
  • Lees-McRae tacked on three fourth-quarter goals, but it was not enough to complete the rally.
  • The Wolves held a 24-19 edge in shots on goals and won 16 of the 25 face-offs.
  • Antonio Cruz and Joshua Csanyi shared time in net for the Bobcats and combined to finish with nine saves.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Baker Westmoreland scored a game-high five goals to pace the Wolves.
  • Bucky Bukta scored three goals, while Garrison Story and Jahn Skinner-Ligon each finished with six saves in net for Newberry.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 as they host Tusculum in a non-conference contest starting at 12 p.m.
