SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Zach Aversano scored on a penalty kick in the first half, while
Johannes Oeksnevad scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute, to lead the Lees-McRae men's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over host Converse to earn their third-consecutive victory and first in Conference Carolinas action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae and Converse matched each other shot-for-shot in the opening minutes, until Tamino Brown and Aversano tallied back-to-back shots to give the Bobcats an early scoring chance.
- The Bobcats finally broke through in the 27th minute as Aversano converted his second penalty kick of the season to give Lees-McRae the early 1-0 lead.
- The Valkyries had one final scoring chance on a corner kick in the 35th minute but failed to break through as the score remained 1-0 at the halftime whistle.
- Converse evened the score on a goal in the 60th minute.
- Oeksnevad broke the deadlock with his fifth goal of the season on an assist by Connor Hahn in the 77th minute and gave the Bobcats the 2-1 conference victory.
- Joshua Garvilla made three saves in net for the Bobcats.
- Lees-McRae held an 11-7 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in shots-on-goal in the contest.
FOR THE FOES:
- Hayden Gensler scored for the Valkyries on an assist by Tobias Bruecher.
- David Windmiller tallied five saves in net for Converse.
