SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Lees-McRae men's tennis sophomore
Max Borisov has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a record of 3-1 over the weekend against Mars Hill and Young Harris. Borisov picked up two straight-set victories at the No. 1 singles on Saturday.
Borisov, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, guided the Bobcats on the weekend with an opening 4-1 match victory against Mars Hill. Borisov paired up with
Facundo Perlov at the No. 1 doubles position to earn the 6-4 match as Lees-McRae jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Borisov dispatched his opponent at No. 1 singles by a final of 6-4, 6-1 as the Bobcats earned the first victory of the dual season at 4-1.
In the match with Young Harris, Borisov teamed with Perlov once again on the day as the duo fell 6-4 in a close match at No. 1 doubles. Borisov earned his second singles victory of the day at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Young Harris' Chimo Minguez Ribera. The Bobcats narrowly dropped the match on Saturday, 4-3.
Borisov was named the Conference Carolinas Men's Freshman of the Month in April 2022 after posting a 6-1 record in singles play and clinching three doubles matches with
Hanqing Wang. Borisov also completed for Lees-McRae earlier this year at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships, where he went 1-1 in singles action before falling to Flagler's Nikita Tatyanin in three sets in the Round of 64.
Lees-McRae men's tennis returns to the courts next year as the Bobcats head to Davidson on January 21
st for a dual match in Davidson, North Carolina.
