Men's Soccer Uses Second-Half Surge to Defeat Erskine, 4-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's soccer tallied three goals in the second half of today's Conference Carolinas action at Erskine as the Bobcats defeated the Flying Fleet, 4-0. Fletcher Dyson, William Gakio, Drew Kilcoyne, and Harrison Watts registered goals in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Watts lifted Lees-McRae in front with the first goal of the game in the eighth minute off a solid assist by Fletcher Dyson.
  • Erskine had the opportunity on target early in the contest as Roman De Leon in the fourth minute of play, but Joshua Garvilla made the stop to keep the score even before Watts' ninth goal of the season.
  • Gakio doubled the lead and scored his first collegiate goal for the Bobcats in the 50th minute as he finished off a through ball by Tamino Brown.
  • Dyson made the score 3-0 in favor of Lees-McRae after tallying a goal off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
  • Kilcoyne put a stamp on the 4-0 victory this afternoon as he recorded his first collegiate goal of his career in the 89th minute.
  • Garvilla earned his third shutout of the 2022 campaign after stopping the lone shot on target from the Flying Fleet.

FOR THE FLYING FLEET:
  • Evan Zizek recorded three saves in goal for Erskine but allowed three goals in 90 minutes of play.
  • De Leon tallied the lone shot on target for the Flying Fleet in the fourth minute of the contest.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae returns to Banner Elk on Saturday afternoon for their home finale and senior day with league opponent Mount Olive. The kickoff is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Tate Field.
