Women's Soccer Draws Even with Shaw as Todd Scores Fifth Goal on Season

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Alexa Todd collected her fifth goal of the 2022 campaign as the Lees-McRae women's soccer match with Shaw ended in a 1-1 draw after a late penalty goal by the Bears in the 78^th minute.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 1; Shaw -- 1
LOCATION: Tate Field -- Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (5-4-3; 4-2-1); Shaw (1-5-1/0-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Todd had the first quality shot in the 11^th minute of play, but Shaw's Paige Ellis registered her first save of the night on the shot.
• Priscilla Mawi almost found the back of the net in the 38^th minute of action, but her shot hit the top of the woodwork as the two sides went into halftime deadlocked at zero.
• Shaw had the play of the night in the 51^st minute of the contest after the Bobcats almost tallied the first goal, but the Bears were able to clear the shot attempt away.
• Todd found the back of the net in the 74^th minute after a cross by Priscilla Mawi as Lees-McRae led 1-0.
• The Bears answered quickly as Thalita Faria was awarded a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the penalty box in the 78^th minute. Faria buried the goal in the right side of the net to even the score at one goal apiece.
• Lees-McRae had two more opportunities as Barrineau sailed a shot just right of the goal and Averee Andrews missed the goal in the 84^th minute as the Bobcats and Shaw finished in a 1-1 draw on Tate Field.
• The Bobcats had the advantage in shots, 11-6, but Shaw had five shots on goal to three for Lees-McRae.
• Mallory Roughton registered four stops in goal this evening for the Bobcats.

FOR THE BEARS:

• Ellie MacDonald paced the Bears with two shots on goal with both coming on free kicks and Faria and Sina Kummerow also had shots on goal for Shaw.

Lees-McRae returns to Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as the Bobcats head to Wilson, North Carolina for a matchup with Barton.
