Women's Volleyball Drops Conference Carolinas Match to Francis Marion, 3-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Lees-McRae women's volleyball welcomed Conference Carolinas member Francis Marion to Banner Elk this evening where the Patriots walked away with a three-set victory. Annalaine Tew led the Bobcats on the night with 12 kills as Sydney Stigler contributed 11 to her season totals.

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Francis Marion def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-19, 31-29, 25-16)
LOCATION: McNair & Debi Tornow Court -- Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (4-15/3-6); Francis Marion (9-7/4-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bobcats started the match with a 4-1 lead after back-to-back kills by Stigler and Destiny Holley. Francis Marion took the lead in the first set with six consecutive points and earned the set point at 25-19 after a kill by Caroline Lucas.
  • In the second set, the Patriots jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but six points in a row by the Bobcats evened the set at 21. Francis Marion had two set points at 24-22, but Lees-McRae tied the set at 24 via kill by Tew and an attack error by the Patriots. Francis Marion kept the set alive after knotting the score at 29 all and earned the set point at 31-29.
  • The Patriots took the match in three sets after eight consecutive points on the serve of Lexi Albright and registered the set victory at 25-16.
  • Tew led the Bobcats on the evening with 12 kills in the contest as Stigler had her second match in a row with 11 spikes in the match. Madison Goins tallied 27 assists and Stigler collected nine digs.

FOR THE PATRIOTS:
  • Katie Kemp, reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month, paced the Patriots with 14 kills and Beyonce Andrews followed with eight. 
  • Kaylee Gillespie had a match-high 32 assists for Francis Marion and Zoie Larkins collected nine digs in the contest.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae returns to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court tomorrow afternoon with a league match against UNC Pembroke. The Bobcats will also celebrate women's volleyball senior Mahea Chun prior to the match at 1 p.m.
