BRISTOL, TENN. – Lees-McRae men's basketball fell 90-65 on Saturday afternoon to South Atlantic Conference member UVA Wise in Bristol.
Drew Gardner paced the Bobcats with 13 points as
Brandon Brown and
Williams Onyeodi followed with 12 and 11 points respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UVA Wise opened the first half on fire as they recorded a 15-4 lead in the first four minutes of game action. The Cavaliers added to their first-half advantage after a made layup by Luke Lawson to put them up, 42-20. Brown got the Bobcats within 18 points before the first half ended as UVA Wise led 47-29.
- Lees-McRae cut the deficit down to 14 points after back-to-back baskets by Nico Ashley and Gardner to start the second half. UVA Wise quickly regained the momentum after a dunk by Joe'l Pettiford pushed the lead up to 23 points at 56-33. The Bobcats got within 17 points with 8:45 remaining but UVA Wise rolled to the 90-65 win on Saturday.
- Lees-McRae went 26-65 (40.0%) from field and 4-26 from beyond the arc. The Bobcats were also 9-18 from the free-throw line on the day. Gardner had 13 points on 5-12 shooting for Lees-McRae and Brown shot an efficient 5-7 from the field for 12 points. Onyeodi added 11 points and four rebounds for the Bobcats.
FOR THE CAVALIERS:
- Luke Lawson led the scoring effort for UVA Wise as he collected 19 points on 7-13 shooting and five three-pointers. Bradley Dean followed with 18 and 10 rebounds as Pettiford registered 17 in the win. Zion Fruster joined his teammates in double-figures with 13 points.
- UVA Wise had a shooting clip of 57.9% (33-57) and made 11 threes in the game.
