NEW ORLEANS, La. - Lees-McRae women's cross country senior
Deanna Betzer recorded another highlight to her 2022 campaign as the New Columbia, Pennsylvania native was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region on Tuesday afternoon.
Betzer rounded out her cross country season with a career-high 10
th place in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship on Saturday in Wingate, North Carolina. Betzer paced the Bobcats as she crossed the finish line in a persona best of 22:29.88 and her 10
th place finish was the best in program history since 2011.
At the Conference Carolinas Championships, Betzer garnered All-Conference Carolinas First Team Honors after recording a second-place finish at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The second-place finish is Betzer's best individual performance at the championships in her four-year career.
In the 2022 season, Betzer was named the Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week twice after breaking the school record in the 5K distance at the first meet of the season at Appalachian State's Covered Bridge Run. Betzer earned the honor for the second time of the season on Sept. 19 after setting a then personal best in the 6K distance at the Converse Kickoff Classic in a time of 22:31.9.
Betzer holds the top three times in school history and is the only runner to post times under 19 minutes in the top 20 all-time performers at Lees-McRae in the 5K distance.
A total of 200 men from 81 different programs and 200 women from 85 difference programs earned the distinction of All-Region by virtue of a top-25 finish at one of the eight regional sites this past weekend. The complete list of awardees is available
