Holloman Paces Women's Basketball with 19 Points in 77-64 Loss to King

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's basketball hosted King this evening in the first installment of the "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" as the Tornado took the 77-64 victory on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. Jala Holloman tallied a game-high 19 points and Arriana Lizzaraga followed with 14 points on 6-9 shooting.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • King opened the first quarter with 18-6 lead after a made basket via Tori Smiley. Lees-McRae closed the quarter at 20-10 after back-to-back jumpers by McKenna Kersat and Dianna Spence.
  • The Bobcats closed the gap within eight points after a layup by Stephanie Kucy as King entered into the halftime break with the 38-30 advantage.
  • In the third quarter, Arriana Lizarraga knocked in a three-pointer at the 3:32 minute mark to get within four points, but the Tornado finished the quarter with a 12-point lead.
  • Lees-McRae cut the deficit to seven points once again after a basket by Lizarraga, but King claimed the 77-64 victory on Wednesday night and secured one point in the "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup".

FOR THE TORNADO:
  • Brianna Dunbar led King with 17 points with 12 coming from the free-throw line and three steals. 
  • Le'Aije Ellington and Tori Smiley joined Dunbar in double-figures with 10 and 16 points respectively.
  • The Tornado scored 35 points off 33 Bobcat turnovers.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • King secured the one point in tonight's edition of the "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" as the Tornado took two points this evening with the doubleheader sweep.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae women's basketball is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3 for the first of three games on the road as the Bobcats face Conference Carolinas member Chowan. The tip-off is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
