Women's Basketball Drops Saturday Contest to UNCP, 60-44

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Dianna Spence scored 11 points in 23 minutes of action as Lees-McRae women's basketball fell 60-44 to UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play.

FINAL SCORE: UNC Pembroke – 68; Lees-McRae – 36

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (0-10/0-6), UNC Pembroke (5-6/4-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jala Holloman gave the Bobcats their first lead of the contest with a three-pointer at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter, but UNCP closed the first with the 15-11 advantage.
  • Lees-McRae took the four-point lead with 3:28 left in the first half after a three via Spence, but the Braves answered with a 10-1 run to collect the 33-28 edge heading into the halftime break.
  • UNCP added to its lead in the third quarter as the Bobcats were held to seven points in the third and nine total points in the fourth quarter. The Braves prevailed with 60-44 victory on Saturday afternoon.
  • Spence knocked down two three-pointers in the contest to lead the Bobcats and Aurora Roberts followed with eight points and two rebounds.
  • McKenna Kersat collected six points in 13 minutes of play and hauled in five rebounds for Lees-McRae.
  • Lees-McRae scored 21 points off 17 UNCP turnovers and went 8-12 from the free-throw line.

FOR THE BRAVES:
  • Kalaya Hall scored a game-high 14 points in UNC Pembroke's win as she shot 4-5 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from beyond-the-arc.
  • Zaria Clark joined her fellow Brave in double-figures with 11 points to go along with eight boards.
  • UNCP shot 40.0% (18-45) from the field and saw eight threes fall in the win.

Lees-McRae women's basketball is back in action tomorrow afternoon on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court as the Bobcats welcome non-conference foe Mars Hill for a 2 p.m. tip.
