Women’s Basketball’s late rally falls short in a loss to North Greenville, 62-52

TIGERVILLE, S.C.Jala Holloman scored a season-high and game-high 24 points, while MaKayla Smith added 11 points and three rebounds, but it was not enough as host North Greenville used a 22-10 second-quarter run to clinch the 62-52 win over the visiting Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holloman shot 6 of 13 from behind the three-point line, which is the most made three-pointers in a single game by a Bobcat since 2020, to pace the Bobcats in scoring to go along with two rebounds and three steals.
  • Smith shot 5 of 9 from the floor, while Aurora Roberts tallied five points and a game-high five steals.
  • The score remained within three points for the entirety of the first quarter as North Greenville held a slim 14-13 edge after 10 minutes of action.
  • The Crusaders outscored the Bobcats 22-10 in the second frame and used a late three-point field goal to take a 36-23 halftime lead.
  • Lees-McRae cut the lead to single digits in the third stanza and trimmed the deficit to 46-35 at the final intermission.
  • Holloman scored a layup at the midway point of the fourth quarter to cut the lead back to 52-46.
  • North Greenville outscored the Bobcats 10-6 in the closing minutes to clinch the conference win.
  • Lees-McRae held a slim 18-16 lead in points off turnovers, while the Crusaders outscored the Bobcats 26-16 in the paint and 20-6 in bench production.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Three Crusaders posted double figures, led by Jayda Glass and Haylee Luttrell with 14 points each.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcat will return to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Thursday, Feb. 24 as they host Barton at 5 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
