Second-quarter run propels North Greenville past Women’s Lacrosse, 16-3

TIGERVILLE, S.C.Kalbie Grassett scored a team-high two goals, but it was not enough as host North Greenville used a 7-0 run in the second quarter to clinch a 16-3 win over the visiting Lees-McRae women's lacrosse team in the Conference Carolinas action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Grassett scored twice to go along with tallying four draw controls and two ground balls.
  • Nim Castro also scored, while Haley Donovan chipped in a game-high five ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
  • After North Greenville scored the first six goals of the contest to grab momentum early, Grassett scored a pair of goals in a two-minute span to trim the deficit to 6-2 after the first 15 minutes of action.
  • The Crusaders scored all seven goals in the second frame to extend the lead to 13-2 at halftime.
  • Castro opened the scoring in the second half to cut the lead to 13-3, but a late North Greenville goal pushed the lead back to 14-3 at the final intermission.
  • The Crusaders scored two goals in the final quarter to clinch the conference victory.
  • Emily Davidson and Mckenzie Mellen combined to make seven saves in net for the Bobcats.
  • North Greenville held a 23-9 shots-on-goal advantage in the contest, while Lees-McRae finished with seven draw controls.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Three Crusaders combined for nine goals and four assists, while McKenna Kees, Lily Carter, and Tori Smith combined for six saves in net for North Greenville.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will return to Tate Field on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. as they host Chowan in a Conference Carolinas contest.
