BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's soccer battled for 90 minutes to notch the 2-2 draw against regional opponent Lander University in the Bobcats' home opener.
Daniel Garvilla and
Fletcher Dyson each netted a goal in the season opener for Lees-McRae.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae rallied after Fletcher Dyson buried his penalty kick in the 38th minute to even the match at one apiece in the first half.
- In the second half, the Bobcats found their footing and the lead after Garvilla finished home the ball off a free kick in the 63rd minute with Harrison Watts collecting the assist.
- Jesper Jonsson joined Dyson, Daniel Garvilla, and Watts with each having one shot on goal in the contest.
- Joshua Garvilla finished with 11 saves in net for the Bobcats
FOR THE BEARCATS:
- Lander scored both of its goal via penalty kicks with Max McNulty and Kevin Rubaszewski finding the back of the net for the Bearcats.
- McNulty converted and gave the Bobcats the one-goal advantage in the 20th minute of play after Lander was rewarded the penalty kick.
- Rubaszewski tallied the second marker of the match for the Bearcats in the 63rd minute after the third combined penalty drawn by each squad.
- The Bearcats finished with 21 total shots and 11 shots on goal with McNulty having three shots on net.
- Simon Reithmeir grabbed two saves in the contest for the Bearcats in 90 minutes of action.
Lees-McRae men's soccer is back in action on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. as the Bobcats host Mars Hill University on Tate Field as part of the Shope Classic.
