SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Lees-McRae women's cross country senior
Deanna Betzer has been named the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Runner of the Week after breaking the previous school record in the 5K distance at Friday night's Covered Bridge Run hosted by Appalachian State.
Betzer, a native of New Columbia, Pennsylvania, started the fall 2022 campaign at the Covered Bride Run with a record-breaking time of 18:54.69 at the Don Kennedy Trail in Boone, North Carolina. The previous record at Lees-McRae stood since 1999 when Amanda Cook registered a time of 19:00.
Betzer's previous personal best was 19:18.22 at the Queens City Invite on September 24, 2021 and garnered All-Conference Carolinas Second Team honors at the Conference Carolinas Championships in 2021 after picking up a 13
th place finish.
Campbell Dille, a freshman from Cary, North Carolina, followed Betzer at the season-opening meet with a time of 20:01.90 which places Dille 20
th all-time in school in the 5K distance.
The Bobcats will now head to Spartanburg, South Carolina to compete in the Converse Kickoff Classic on September 17.
