Men's Basketball Falls to Johnson C. Smith, 86-76, on Saturday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Timon Jones had a season-high 21 points on 8-13 shooting and 5-6 from three-point range, but Johnson C. Smith ended Lees-McRae men's basketball's seven-game win streak on Saturday afternoon by a score of 86-76.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jones led four Bobcats in double-digit scoring on the day with 21 points to go along with four assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Ja'Quavian Florence collected his sixth game in a row in double figures with 17 points and recorded five rebounds and two assists. 
  • Nico Ashley had 12 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting and seven boards. LJ Rogers tallied 10 points in 15 minutes. Sidney Dollar registered nine points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists in the contest.
  • Jaylin Stewart started the scoring for the Bobcats with a three off a pass from Jones. The Golden Bulls battled back with a 12-0 run at 18-6 and took the opening half at 46-36.
  • Lees-McRae rallied early in the second half after Jones knocked in a three with 15:52 remaining in regulation. JCSU then went on a 17-2 run over three minutes of action in the half.
  • The Bobcats cut the deficit to 10 points after a fastbreak layup by Rogers, but Johnson C. Smith took the 86-76 victory on their home court.
  • Lees-McRae shot 30-65 (46.2%) from the field with nine three-pointers. 
FOR THE GOLDEN BULLS:
  • Avery Huggins guided JCSU to the victory with 16 points on 8-12 shooting and added eight rebounds and three assists. Jeremee Bryant and Ezekiel Cannady followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Johnson C. Smith shot an efficient 61.5% (32-52) from the field and made 18-25 from the free-throw line.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's basketball returns to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court and Conference Carolinas on Wednesday, Dec. 13 with Emmanuel. The tip-off from Banner Elk is scheduled for 7 p.m.
