Men's Volleyball Earns Four-Set Victory at Erskine on Saturday

DUE WEST, S.C. – Lees-McRae men's volleyball improved to 5-4 in Conference Carolinas play this afternoon as the Bobcats knocked off Erskine in four sets. Michael Marsans had a team-high 14 kills in the match and Sebastian Heer joined him in double figures with 13.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Erskine, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 28-26)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bradley Peters dished out 47 assists in today's contest and added three service aces to his team-leading 62 on the season. Ace Backer tallied nine kills on 16 attempts and M.J. Doyle collected seven in the match.
  • The Bobcats outhit the Flying Fleet .263 to .179 as Lees-McRae recorded 54 total kills in four sets.
  • Lees-McRae held the 20-17 advantage in the first set but Erskine rallied with five consecutive points and took set one 25-22.
  • In the second set, the Bobcats evened the match at one set apiece after hitting a match-high .385 and Heer completed the set win a kill at 25-22.
  • The third set belonged to the Bobcats also at 25-22 after two straight points to close the set with a kill via Backer and an Erskine attack error.
  • Lees-McRae battled early in the fourth set to even the set score at nine-all after three consecutive points for the Bobcats. Erskine fought off one match point at 25-24, but Peters had a clutch service ace to give Lees-McRae the set and match victory.

FOR THE FLYING FLEET:
  • Edgerrin Austin registered a match-high 16 kills for the Flying Fleet and a hitting percentage of .357. Jason Sall followed with nine kills and Francisco Pomar accumulated 35 assists.

Lees-McRae men's volleyball returns to Banner Elk on Tuesday, March 28 when the Bobcats welcome North Greenville to town.
