GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas announced its 2022-23 Herff Jones Conference Carolinas Male and Female Athlete of the Year finalists on Monday afternoon with
Max Borisov and
Julie Gast representing Lees-McRae College.
Borisov, a sophomore Business Administration major from Sofia, Bulgaria, went a perfect 10-0 against league opponents at the No. 1 singles position and recorded a 14-1 overall record in the spring season. Borisov along with
Facundo Perlov were named to the All-Conference Carolinas First Team in April and Borisov was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week on October 12, 2022 and April 13.
Gast, a recent graduate from Taylorsville, North Carolina, led the Bobcat softball program to a school record in wins this season with 32. Gast ended her five-year career at Lees-McRae as the all-time leader in runs scored, hits, doubles, runs batted, and assists. Gast was named to the All-Conference Carolinas Defensive Team this past spring and was also named to the All-Conference Carolinas Tournament Team.
The Herff Jones Conference Carolinas Male and Female Athletes of the Year Awards are awarded to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes for the year in the league. Per the Directors of Athletics vote, nominations will be accepted from member institutions to only include conference-sponsored sports, and all nomination information, statistics, and accomplishments are solely based on athletically-related criteria.
The winners of the 2022-23 Herff Jones Conference Carolinas Male and Female Athlete of the Year will be unveiled on Thursday morning.
