BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Lees-McRae women's soccer dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Mars Hill on Thursday after a goal in the 73rd minute via Lion Marianne Ross.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MHU and Lees-McRae were knotted with seven total shots apiece with the Lions holding the advantage in shots on goal at 4-3.
- Lexi Hanson had two shots on target in the eighth minute of the match, but Mars Hill's Camryn Miller made both stops early in the match.
- Maddie Campo kept the game scoreless with two stops in the 21st minute and the 32nd minute of the first half. Campo ended the match with three saves.
- Mars Hill's Ross found the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute and gave the Lions the season-opening victory 1-0.
- Gwen O'Brien had one more quality chance for the Bobcats but her shot in the woodwork in the 89th minute with the final score being 1-0 in favor of the Lions.
- Averee Andrews joined Hanson with a shot on goal for the Bobcats.
FOR THE LIONS:
- Ross had two shots on goal for Mars Hill and Julia Luna and Riley Nash added one shot on goal each.
- Miller made three saves in goal for the shutout in the Lions' season opener.
