Women's Volleyball Sweeps Belmont Abbey

BANNER ELK, N.C.  – Lees-McRae women's volleyball defeated Belmont Abbey in straight sets on Saturday afternoon after a balanced hitting attack. Sydney Stigler led the Bobcats with 14 kills and added 12 digs in the contest.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Belmont Abbey, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 29-27)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Destiny Holley joined Stigler with double-digit kills with 11 and added one block also. Patrycja Rykala had seven kills and a .313 hitting percentage for the Bobcats.
  • Lauren Xayavong tallied 13 digs, four assists, and three service aces in today's match and Madison Goins contributed 34 assists, eight digs, and one ace. Nina Vallesi recorded four kills, seven digs, and three aces in the victory.
  • As a team, Lees-McRae had a hitting percentage of .275 and totaled 44 kills in the three-set sweep. The Bobcats held Belmont Abbey to a .061 hitting percentage with 24 kills and 18 errors in the afternoon.
  • Lees-McRae rolled in the first two sets as they quickly took the first by a score of 25-13 and followed shortly after in the second at 25-14.
  • The third set went back and forth between the two squads as Belmont Abbey held a 23-22 advantage late in the set. The Bobcats knotted the score at 23-23 and held a match point after a kill from Holley. The two sides traded points before the Crusaders had a set point at 27-26, but the Bobcats rattled off three straight points to earn the set and match in three. Nicole Osborne had timely kills to end the match for the Bobcats after facing a set point for Belmont Abbey at 27-26 and then giving Lees-McRae the lead back at 28-27.
 
FOR THE CRUSADERS:
  • Lily Marsh registered 12 digs and four assists for Belmont Abbey and Sarah had a hitting percentage of .429 with six kills on the day.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae makes the trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina for a matchup against Converse on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The first serve in Spartanburg is slated for 7 p.m.
