CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's volleyball took the third set, 26-24, against Queens this evening, but the Bobcats fell in four sets to the Royals in Charlotte.
Austin Beaird had a team-high seven kills and
Luke Fincham and
Sebastian Heer added six kills apiece in the match.

FINAL SCORE: Queens def. Lees-McRae, 3-1 (25-10, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18)

RECORDS: Queens (1-3/0-0): Lees-McRae (0-4/0-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Queens led early in the first set at 14-7 and used a 6-0 run to secure the first set at 25-10.
- In the second set, Lees-McRae had a late rally with three straight points at 24-22, but a service error gave the Royals the two set advantage.
- The Bobcats used a scoring run of four consecutive points at 16-15 to gain the lead in the third set and earned a set point at 25-24 after a kill from L. Fincham. Queens' Chance Shampine recorded an attack error as Lees-McRae picked up the set, 26-24.
- Queens had their best set in the fourth with a .400 hitting percentage with 17 kills to register the victory in four sets and their first victory of the season.
- Beaird led the Bobcats in the hitting column with seven kills on 18 total attempts. L. Fincham and Heer followed with six kills each. Erel Bardah contributed five kills in the four sets and Abdirahman Ahmed had three kills, two service aces, and six digs on the night.
- Merritt Crowe distributed 28 assists in four sets for Lees-McRae and Isaac LaFunor collected six digs in the match.
FOR THE ROYALS:
- Matthew Pilch had a match-high 13 kills on a .542 hitting percentage and Chance Shampine followed with 10 kills, four digs, three blocks, and two service aces.
- Daniel Leitao led Queens with 25 assists and Chris Peters tallied six digs in the match.
