Match Preview: Women's Soccer Faces Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas Semifinals

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – No. 1 Lees-McRae women's soccer heads to the Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park tomorrow morning for a semifinal clash with No. 4 Belmont Abbey in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship.

Lees-McRae enters Friday at 10-2-3 overall and earned the Conference Carolinas Northwest Division Title with 20 total points and a 6-0-2 in its pod. The Bobcats have not suffered a loss since September 11 when Tusculum collected the 1-0 win on Tate Field. Lees-McRae has not allowed a goal since October 16 when the Bobcats tied "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" opponent King, 1-1, in Mocksville, North Carolina.

In Division II this year, Lees-McRae is ranked No. 2 in goals against average at 0.267 and save percentage at 0.915. Chiara Coppin leads the Bobcat defense in goal with 11 shutouts in 2024 and recorded Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts. C. Coppin is currently third in the nation in save percentage at 0.911.

Belmont Abbey registered two victories so far in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament with 3-0 wins over Barton and Converse. Anna Richard paces the Crusaders with 10 goals on the season and Haley Long has 14 assists in 14 matches played. Belmont Abbey is ranked second in scoring average in the league at 2.667 and has recorded a league-high 48 goals in 18 contests.

Lees-McRae last faced Belmont Abbey on October 12 when the Bobcats earned the 2-1 victory in Belmont, North Carolina. Jordan Bartlinski tallied the match-winning goal with 27 seconds to play in the contest against the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey and Lees-McRae also battled to a 0-0 draw in Banner Elk on September 18.

The winner of Belmont Abbey/Lees-McRae will face either No. 2 UNC Pembroke or No. 3 Francis Marion on Sunday, November 17 at 1 p.m. at the Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park.
