Women's Basketball Secures 85-78 Victory over Erskine Behind Hairston's Career-High 24 Points

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – Lees-McRae women's basketball picked up a 85-78 win over Erskine in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday afternoon. Nadiya Hairston led the Bobcats with a career-high 24 points. Emily Barr and Leah Barringer joined Hairston in scoring double-digit points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Hairston buried a three-pointer at the 8:52 mark of the first quarter, but Erskine used a 13-2 run to lead 20-13 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
  • The Bobcats bounced back in the second period as they cut the lead to points off a layup from Kayli Dunn. Erskine regained its seven-point advantage and led 42-35 at the halftime break.
  • The Bobcats used a 6-0 scoring run in the middle of the third quarter to trim the deficit to four points. Hairston knocked her second three-pointer of the day to tie the score at 59-59.
  • Emily Barr collected a fastbreak layup to give Lees-McRae the 61-59 lead and the Bobcats had the 63-62 advantage at the end of third quarter.
  • Hairston and Sandra Mason moved the lead to six points with 7:46 left in the game. Lees-McRae then used a 9-0 run to lead 83-72 with 1:27 left in the game and collected the 85-78 win over the Flying Fleet on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Hairston contributed a game-high 24 points on 8-16 shooting and 6-8 from the free-throw line. Barr recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Barringer followed with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
  • Lees-McRae went 30-73 (41.1%) from the floor with four three-pointers and 21-29 from the charity stripe. The Bobcats registered 19 points off 27 caused turnovers and held the advantage inside the paint with 48 points to Erskine's 40.

FOR THE FLYING FLEET:
  • Albany Wilson paced Erskine with 20 points and five boards. Ahrianna Scott followed with 16 points and Jakayla Lorick had 10 points for the Flying Fleet.
