Men's Basketball Concludes Season in Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Lees-McRae men's basketball concluded their 2023-24 season on Friday afternoon with an 81-76 loss to Chowan in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship. Jaylin Stewart led the Bobcats with 19 points on the day.

FINAL SCORE: No. 3 Chowan – 81; No. 6 Lees-McRae – 76
LOCATION: Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium – Spartanburg, South Carolina
RECORDS: Chowan (20-8/13-5), Lees-McRae (19-11/11-7)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Timon Jones started the Bobcats on a 6-0 run with a three-pointer to start the contest and Nico Ashley recorded a dunk at the 18:05 mark of the first half. Chowan cut the lead to 33-31 and took the 34-33 margin with 3:34 left in the first half.
  • LJ Rogers sent the Bobcats into the halftime break with a six-point lead after a three-pointer in the first half.
  • Jones started the second half just like the first half with a triple, but Chowan went on a 14-0 run and collected the 50-45 lead with 14:43 left in the second half. The Hawks advanced to the semifinals with the 81-76 win in Spartanburg on Friday afternoon.
  • Stewart had 19 points on 8-14 shooting. Jones joined him in double figures with 11 points in 31 minutes of action. Ashley and Rodney Smith collected nine points apiece. Sidney Dollar concluded his Bobcat career with seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
FOR THE HAWKS:
  • Daylan Askew had a game-high 21 points for Chowan. Preston Le Gassick scored 19 points on 6-11 from the field.

Lees-McRae men's basketball finished the season at 19-11 overall and 11-7 in Conference Carolinas play.
