BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College Deputy Director of Athletics - Chief Compliance Officer Jeff Merrill will be stepping down on May 10 after serving the institution since 2014. Merrill will join Gardner-Webb University as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
"I'm forever grateful for the opportunities and experiences that Vice President for Athletics and Club Sports Craig McPhail and Lees-McRae has provided to me and my family over the last ten years," said Merrill.
Merrill was elevated to the role of Deputy Director of Athletics - Chief Compliance Officer in 2022 and was responsible for being game administration at home competitions, managing the media room schedule, completing the annual NCAA reports, and monitoring the academic success of Lees-McRae College's 300+ student-athletes.
A member of the NACDA, and both the Early Intervention Team for Student Academic Success and the Staff Association Bylaw Committee at Lees-McRae College, Merrill has participated in numerous workshops including the NCAA Leadership Development Program and the BB&T Leadership Development Program. Merrill also received the Edgar Tufts Humanitarian Award in 2021 and was presented with the Bridge Builder Award by Lees-McRae College in 2015-16.
"I've enjoyed working with the athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, and the Bobcat supporters," said Merrill. "I look forward to keeping up with Bobcat Athletics to watch its continued growth. However, it has come time to move on to new challenges and opportunities."
