BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lees-McRae Head Athletic Trainer Lucas Carson was promoted to Director of Sports Medicine after holding the position of head athletic trainer since 2019.

"I want to thank President Lee King and Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Kevin Phillips for the opportunity to serve our student-athletes well," said Carson. "I am excited for the upcoming year and look forward to working with our athletes and athletics department."

Carson joined the Lees-McRae Athletic Training staff in January 2013 as an assistant athletic trainer. He currently serves as the athletic trainer for men's soccer, men's basketball, men's and women's cycling, and men's and women's track & field teams. He has previously worked with the men's and women's lacrosse programs as well as the men's and women's cross country teams.

Carson served as an adjunct faculty member for the formerly CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Program from 2013-2018.

Prior to joining the staff at Lees-McRae, Carson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and his Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Fitness & Wellness from California University of Pennsylvania.

Carson resides in Banner Elk with his wife, Jenn, and their son, Gentry.
