BLUEFIELD, W.Va. –
Destiny Holley secured her 500th career kill as a Bobcat today as Lees-McRae women's volleyball went 1-1 at the Big Blue Classic in Bluefield, West Virginia on Friday. The Bobcats earned the three-set sweep over Erskine in the first match of the day and fell to West Virginia Wesleyan in five sets in the last match of the night.
GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Erskine, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-22)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holley propelled the Bobcats to a three-set sweep over fellow Conference Carolinas member Erskine on Friday afternoon after collecting 15 kills on a .387 hitting percentage.
- Lees-McRae had its best hitting percentage of the year to date with a .326 hitting percentage with 39 kills and nine errors.
- Patrycjya Rykala followed Holley with six kills on a .357 percentage in the second game of the tournament. Sydney Stigler chipped in five kills for a .417 hitting percentage in two sets.
- Ella Young distributed 22 assists and added four digs and one service ace in the contest. Karlee Mainor had 12 assists and one kill in the match. Nina Vallesi led the Bobcats with 11 digs and both Brooke Ashkenase and Emma Summerfield chipped in eight digs.
FOR THE FLYING FLEET:
- Ali Angell and Becca Yohe contributed a team-high four kills in the match. Ailena Mykins had 10 assists in the loss.
GAME 2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: West Virginia Wesleyan def. Lees-McRae, 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-13, 18-25, 15-13)
LOCATION: Ned Shott Gymnasium - Bluefield, West Virginia
RECORDS: West Virginia Wesleyan (5-2/0-0), Lees-McRae (4-1/0-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae and West Virginia Wesleyan battled to five sets in the final match of the opening day of the Big Blue Classic. WVWC knocked off the Bobcats in the final set, 15-13.
- Lees-McRae forced the fifth set with a 25-18 set win in the fourth. The Bobcats had a .276 hitting percentage in the frame and held WVWC to .063.
- In the fifth, West Virginia Wesleyan built a 10-5 advantage, but the Bobcats rallied with five consecutive points to knot the score at 10 points apiece. WVWC regained the lead at 14-12 and a kill from Alauna Wilson gave West Virginia Wesleyan the five-set victory in their home state.
- Holley earned the 500th kill of her career in tonight's contest and finished the match with 14 kills, five blocks, and 18.5 total points. Stigler narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
- Vallesi had a team-high 20 digs for the Bobcats to go along with seven kills, two service aces, and two blocks. Young started the offense with 26 assists and Mainor registered 17 assists in five sets.
FOR THE BOBCATS:
- WVWC is now 2-1 against Conference Carolinas opponents with wins over Francis Marion and Lees-McRae.
- Wilson powered WVWC to victory with 15 kills on a .263 hitting percentage. Bhrooke Axe joined Wilson in double figures with 11 kills on an efficient .391 hitting percentage. Jalynn West had a match-high 41 assists.

Lees-McRae looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon with matches against Shorter and Bluefield State. The Bobcats face Shorter starting at 12 p.m. in Bluefield, West Virginia.
